Asus Accessories and esports

As mentioned in a previous article about gaming trends for 2022, betting on esports was a massive trend in 2021 with popular games including League of Legends, DOTA 2, FIFA, and NBA. In large tournaments, players compete for millions of dollars in prize money and are closely watched by thousands of fans via Youtube and Twitch. Fans can bet on who will win a tournament of course, but they can also bet on certain stats such as who gets the most kills, which player scores the first goal, or what the score is at halftime, for example. You can see why esports only continues to grow in popularity, offering opportunities to participate in an exciting community of players as well as the chance to win prizes.

What are esports?

If you are new to esports or “electronic sports”, let us give you a little history. By the early 1970’s, many homes had a video game console and young people enjoyed shooting games, racing games, and the highly successful, Pong among others. In 1972, at Stanford University, the world’s first video game competition occurred. In this now famed event, students competed for the highest score in the game Spacewar! to win a year’s supply of Rolling Stone magazine. This was the first recorded instance of players competing digitally for a prize, setting the stage for eSports to prosper. In the 1990’s and 2000’s, esports competitions flourished as technology advanced, with players competing in games like Street Fighter, then later Warcraft, Call of Duty and many others. The first World Cyber Games, one of the largest esports tournaments, took place in 2001 with a prize pool of $300,000! You can imagine how esports has grown since then, with the best players even making careers out of professional gaming, winning millions of dollars in tournaments all across the globe. These events draw huge audiences who can watch in real-time via streaming services like Twitch. But fans can do more than just watch - many people enjoy betting on esports to immerse themselves even more in the action. Esports creates huge revenue and is only set to increase in future.

How can I participate in esports

Whether you would like to join an esports team as a hobby or you are considering it as a career, there are some key components you will need to get started. To find teams as an amateur player you will have to be a go-getter and search through internet forums and posts for openings. Many colleges and other organizations hold recreational gaming tournaments; be involved at every opportunity! If your skills are good, you could consider livestreaming your games on Youtube and other social media platforms to build a reputation for yourself.
